I don't know about you, but when I'm busy working on something, you can tell. My desk invariably overflows with paper, sketches, prototypes, old cups of coffee, sticky notes everywhere, water bottles, toys... the list goes on. To the untrained eye this looks like complete chaos, like a bomb's gone off, but if something gets moved - I can immediately tell. The piles of paper are actually organised according to a pattern and as I have a photographic memory, scattering things helps me find them. This, at least is what I tell people who question my need for a mess.
